Bristol Nature Network

The Bristol Nature Network (BNN) is a community of young people (aged 18 30-ish) who take action for nature, share ideas, develop skills and socialise in Bristol.

‘Our mission is to support members to develop skills in wildlife recording, conservation and public engagement and to take action for nature.’

BNN has been running since March 2014 and is run by a voluntary committee who are dedicated to connecting like-minded people; providing education and training opportunities to the next generation in conservation; and inspiring Bristol at large to care for their environment. Since March they have run over 20 free events which ranged from networking socials and BBC talks, to ID training and practical conservation days.

The Bristol Nature Network has over 400 members who are passionate about the natural world and range from students to professionals to people who are simply interested in meeting likeminded individuals. Through the production of regular events and volunteering opportunities the Bristol Nature Network encourages members to take action for the benefit of the environment whilst strengthening the potential of young conservationists in the city.

New members can sign up to our weekly newsletter, and get involved with the active BNN Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Bristol Nature Network aims to:

  • Be actively involved in nature conservation through working with partners to protect wildlife and encourage concern for our natural environment
  • Enable network members to develop their own ideas, projects and initiatives for the benefit of the environment
  • Provide access to organisations within the environmental sector by identifying relevant opportunities
  • Provide training and volunteering opportunities that build tangible skills (e.g. biological recording) with the aim of assisting career progression
  • Encourage social interaction with like-minded people, helping to build a community in the city with ongoing commitment to nature conservation through the production of regular events and activities
  • Create links within the local community by encouraging members to partake in public engagement activities which inspire engagement with the natural world
