Only buy the food you need
Romy Gill explains why…
Food is a big part of everyone’s weekly budget and the cost just seems to keep rising. But is there anything you can do about it, short of giving up your job and turning every piece of scrap land in your neighbourhood into a miniature allotment filled with purple sprouting broccoli?
Our top tip: save on your food bills by buying what you need, when you need it. Almost half of the 7 million tonnes of food thrown away by Bristol households annually is still fit to eat.
That’s a problem for our wallets and the environment, so if you want to save a bit of cash, write a list, keep an eye on your Use By dates and don’t be swayed by multi-buy bargains if you won’t use the food.
