Green Capital Arts Programme

Bristol 2015 is working in partnership with the Arts Council and a range of organisations across the city to help make sustainable living accessible and easy to understand.

This exceptional arts programme has been made possible thanks to an Exceptional Award from the Arts Council England, which has been awarded to Bristol to mark its status as European Green Capital.

It is built around six major projects including:

– Luke Jerram’s Withdrawn, which is provoking discussion about climate change, changing ocean temperatures, falling fish stocks and our impact on the marine environment.

– Time and Space: a major new exhibition of work at Arnolfini by Richard Long, one of the most important artists of his generation, who makes art by walking in landscapes.

– Theaster Gates’ first UK public project that promises to draw significantly on the artist’s ability to breathe new life into discarded materials and forgotten places.

– Festival of the Future City, a year-long programme of work and the largest debate ever about the future of the city, bringing together thinkers, writers, artists, think tanks, governments and the public.

In addition, Bristol 2015 is running its own Neighbourhood Arts community engagement programme, and working with partmers across the city to deliver a range of important commissions such as The Blue Whales, Fog Bridge and Katie Paterson’s wood pavilion.

“The programme we are supporting will place the green agenda on a more creative and contemporary platform that really engages everyone – artists, audiences and particularly children and young people – in celebrating sustainability and future ways of living.”
