Walk more

Walk more

Walk whenever you can and feel great

Cars, trains and buses have their place in the world but walking often gets overlooked. Don’t worry, you don’t need to go on a long hike to enjoy the benefits of a good walk.

Around a third of all our journeys are less than a mile, which is about a 20 minute walk. That’s the perfect length to clear your head, get your body moving and do yourself some good.

Walking is good for you and the planet. Bristol’s Walking Festival is back in May; it’s the country’s largest urban walking festival, with over 150 walks from 60 organisations. Check it out and get some walking inspiration.

If you have young children, can you get them walking more? The average primary school journey is just 1.5 miles and still the morning school run accounts for one in five cars on the road. October is Walk to School month but you can do it anytime. Start on days when it’s not raining, so you don’t put the kids off!
