Enjoy fresher produce that’s better for you

Did you know that local produce is better for you and for the environment? Reducing the time and distance between grower and buyer lowers carbon emissions and provides fresher produce, not to mention supporting the local economy so the area you live in thrives.

The good news is that you don’t have to camp out in an allotment and change your name to Rainbow Unicorn anymore to find local produce – just visit soilassociation.org/boxschemes to find organic vegetables near you. The South West has the greatest concentration of organic producers in the UK so there’s lots of choice when it comes to veggies.

Meat production, however, uses an insane amount of the world’s resources. It causes nearly a fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions, with 16,000 litres of water needed to produce just 1kg of beef. We also eat more of it than is good for us.

So see if you can cut the amount of meat in your diet. Have a Meat Free Monday or a Turnip Tuesday once in a while. It’s good for your health and your wallet – and you’ll be doing the environment a huge favour.
