AHR
AHR is one of the leading practices in the area of sustainable design, carrying out award-winning research on building performance recognised by prestigious awarding bodies such as AJ100, RIBA and GreenBuild.
We publish the results of our research via peer-reviewed journals and actively contribute to the work of the RIBA Sustainable Futures Group, CIBSE Energy Performance Group and BSRIA’s Soft Landings Group.
Building on feedback, gathered systematically from our completed projects, we work closely with engineers and contractors so that our buildings offer simple controls of internal environment, are healthy and comfortable. We follow a fabric first approach to energy efficiency, maximising fabric performance and paying close attention to any openings and junctions in the building fabric to ensure we design out thermal bridges and air leakage while providing responsive, efficient ventilation and ample daylight.
We aim to use locally sourced materials, low embodied energy and sustainable options wherever possible in our office activities and throughout our schemes. We champion the use of sustainable transport in our projects through links to public transport routes and supporting pedestrian and cycle movements.
The AHR Bristol office is dedicated to making the city and region a low carbon environment with a high quality of life for all. In addition to our environmentally aware building designs, AHR are planning a series of activities to raise awareness and change behaviours. These include new challenges each month targeting various aspects of sustainable living at work and home. Monthly themes range from recycling, reducing plastic waste, the use of Fair Trade produce and the reduction of our own energy consumption.
